CCTV cameras to be installed in Golden Temple

CCTV cameras to be installed in Golden Temple to enhance the security of nearly one lakh (100,000) visitors / devotees, and also the frequent visits of the VVIPs including Prime Minister S. Manmohan Singh.

Amritsar (Punjab, India), March 31: Shriomani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to install (Close circuit Television Camera) (CCTV) in all the nook and corners of the Harmandar Sahib (Golden Temple).

SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar today said that to install CCTV cameras in the holiest Sikh shrine Golden Temple, the budget of Rs. one crore had been earmarked.

The CCTV cameras would be installed on war footing level at the earliest possible to keep eye on all kind of activities in or around the Golden Temple.

The number of visitors to the floating Golden Temple (Harmandar Sahib) on a daily basis is recorded to be nearly one lakh (100,000) and keeping in view of the security of devotees, the SGPC has decided to install CCTV cameras.

Moreover, the frequent visits of the VVIPs including Prime Minister, Union Cabinet ministers, and chief ministers of various States, senior bureaucrats and senior leadership from foreign countries forced the SGPC to install CCTV cameras for safety measures.
